Sunday Christian’s Unite!

Well - I try not to be too harsh on other people’s preaching, and I can generally keep my mouth closed unless it is something entirely frustrating. So I’ll apologise for the following frustratingness. However, listening tonight to Rick Warren’s DVD introduction to 40 Days of Community was hard going. The man kept up a tirade of sweeping generalisations - which in many cases would have excluded millions of people around the world.

In short, everything is better in life if we do it together. I loved his analogy of a baby left on the side of the road being unable to grow, without a family. I mean, hello? Serious misinterpretation of an analogy anyone? And if you want to take the analogy further - what about foster homes, being raised in the wild, etc.

And I feel really sorry for the missionaries of yester-year, who simply had no other option but to go out on their own and spread the word of God that way. No support groups, no ladies groups praying over scones, no sending church; nothing but the knowledge that God gave them to go overseas and spread His word.

However, while I will say that not everything is better as a group - especially in regards to worship, which he felt had to be in a group to be of any use whatsoever - he did make a good step forward in regards to community evangelisation. As a church, we must all step forward and work as a whole to spread the word of God.

Far too many church’s are too inward focused, and are unwilling to serve or to step out of their comfort zones to help anyone other than themselves. I think it’s time that all the church’s of the world were challenged with the knowledge that they must get out there, and serve others. It is how Jesus came to us - as a servant. Who are we to disagree!
