Robert Jordan October 17, 1948 – September 16, 2007
Born James Oliver Rigney Junior, and writing primarily under the pen name Robert Jordan, the author of the wildly popular and successful Wheel of Time series passed away 2:45pm, on the 16th of September, 2007, aged 58.
Survived by his wife Harriet McDougal Rigney, Jordan died of a rare blood disease that, according to his personal assistant Maria Simons, caused the walls of his heart to thicken. According to his Wikipedia entry, he died due to complications from primary amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy (cardiac amyloidosis).
Author of a trilogy of books set in Charleston under the pen name Reagan O’Neal in the early 1980s, he will most likely be remembered for his contribution to the fantasy literary world, with his 11 book series, The Wheel of Time. He had been working on the twelfth novel at the time of his death, and through the grief fans feel, in each of us is a hope that that last book will one day see the light of a bookshelf.
According to reports, many of his notes are in his families keeping now, along with verbal recounting of where the story was intended to go.
My heart and prayers go out to Harriet, and the rest of the Rigney, née Jordan family.
“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” - Numbers 6:24-26
