Was Pope John Paul the Second Euthanized?
I found this in my scrambling’s across my RSS feeds tonight, and I was immediately intrigued. The article discusses another article written by Dr. Lina Pavanelli in an Italian journal, that brings in to question whether the late John Paul II - the former Pope until he passed away and was succeeded by whatshisface - was euthanized.
In a provocative article, an Italian medical professor argues that Pope John Paul II didn’t just simply slip away as his weakness and illness overtook him in April 2005. Intensive care specialist Dr. Lina Pavanelli has concluded that the ailing Pope’s April 2 death was caused by what the Catholic Church itself would consider euthanasia. She bases this conclusion on her medical expertise and her own observations of the ailing pontiff on television, as well as press reports and a subsequent book by John Paul’s personal physician. The failure to insert a feeding tube into the patient until just a few days before he died accelerated John Paul’s death, Pavanelli concludes. Moreover, Pavanelli says she believes that the Pope’s doctors dutifully explained the situation to him, and thus she surmises that it was the pontiff himself who likely refused the feeding tube after he’d been twice rushed to the hospital in February and March. Catholics are enjoined to pursue all means to prolong life.
The article is written by Jeff Israely, for Time Magazine, and can be found in full here. The original article is a journal piece, and thus inaccessible via the internet.

This DR should be ashamed for lying to the public for political reasons. Pope John Paul is in heaven with no worrys, I can’t say that will be the case for her.
It is sad that someone would come out and make such an outlandish statement when all the evidence points in the opposite direction. This ‘doctor’ proposes that he refused a feeding tube that was needed, two months before his death.
However, “That the Pope’s nutritional problems need not have been grave can also be adduced from the fact that on Feb. 23, the eve of his last hospitalization, the Holy Father was at dinner,[12] and from the Feb. 24 statement by the director of the Parkinson’s Center at the Milan Istituti Clinici di Perfezionamento, Gianni Pezzoli: The Pope “recovered very well after his first stay in the hospital.”[5] Immediately following the tracheotomy, sources report him eating again — a caffe latte, 10 small cookies, a yogurt[13] — it is hard to imagine a sudden recovery of the capacity to swallow after having lacked it for nearly a month.”(Doctor Renzo Puccetti)
“Doctor Buzzonetti subsequently clarified that the Pope was outfitted with the nasal-gastric feeding tube from Monday of Holy Week, that is, March 21,[14] and that during the Via Crucis [on Good Friday] the Pontiff was lying on his back precisely for this reason.”(Doctor Renzo Puccetti)
Seems as if the evidence points toward the fact that this other so-called ‘doctor’ is in fact simply stating something in a perverse attempt to undermine the Church’s teaching which was officially released with regard to feeding tubes, water and the like, about a month prior to her article.

Dying should not be prolonged. You have the right to die with dignity without being hooked to machines which do not prolong life but prolong death.
