Justice League Storyline Spoilers

JLACv1var If you didn’t come from CBM, then you’ll want to check out this post, and this post. They discuss the spoilers that have been revealed for the Justice League storyline.

To be perfectly honest with you, I’m feeling a little like Two-Face right now. I’ve no idea what to think about this movie. One minute, the casting looks shit, and I’m scared as hell they’re going to ruin it. Next minute, I’m reading these fabulous script details and wishing they’d hurry up and make it.

We’re going to run in to one of those dilemmas this movie. It is never going to be the whole movie we want it to be, if they don’t get Christian Bale to play Batman. And no, the movie doesn’t hinge on him, but if they don’t, that means that the actors they will get won’t be in line with what we want, or what will make this film great.

That’s not to say that the movie wont’ be good, but without an older, more experienced cast, it just isn’t going to be all it can be. Ryan Reynolds needs to be the Flash, aka Wally West, Bale needs to be Bruce, I really wanted Welling as Supes, and I’ve been an advocate of Morenna Baccarin as Wonder Woman for a year or so now.

But let’s look at the script details we’ve got.

It starts out at a funeral, then cuts back to six days prior to Barry Allen. If you know your movies, that doesn’t bode well for Barry. And we know that, in the comics, Barry Allen doesn’t survive past the Crisis on Infinite Earth’s storyline. He died to save the world, and it is one of those deaths that you really cannot beat!

It also adds up with the casting that they’re doing, to kill off Barry. You can’t go for a young actor to portray the Flash and still have him married! So the theory being kicked around is that Allen dies up front, and Wally West is the young flash they’re casting for.

Of course, we’ve got Batman and his Brother Eye satellite, that essentially flung everyone head long in to the most recent DC crossover Crisis event.

And, that he’s off to meet with Maxwell Lord just as the satellite begins to spy on J’onn J’onzz is another of those movie ‘tells’.

UGO also had this to say about what they’d heard;

I’m pretty sure that some of the fanbase of one particular JLA superhero is going to be angry over what happens at the conclusion of the story regarding a heavy decision that the superhero(ine) has to make that comes as a suggestion from one of the film’s villains.

With Brother Eye playing a supporting role and Maxwell Lord all but announced as one of the villains, this is my theory; the “superhero(ine)” is Wonder Woman, and the suggestion is from Maxwell Lord to kill her. It’s how it went down in the prelude to Infinite Crisis, and the similarities are too many to ignore.

There’s a few other things that are making me happy, no less the fact that Alfred is in the movie!

The Justice League is formed; this isn’t a formation movie, showing how they got together. They just are, and those who don’t get it just have to live with it.

Lastly, it looks as if the men and women behind the movie are trying to hold some things back to surprise us. There’s an “Empire Strikes Back/”I am your father”" surprise that no one is willing to give away, and that’s just how it should be. Let us play and speculate with small bits of information like what we have, but don’t ruin the story.

That’s all I have to say, I look forward to seeing the comments play out below. I want to hear what you all have to say!

So,

SERIOUSLY, I don’t know WHAT to think ’bout this stuff anymore!
On the one hand, i’m SO glad they didn’t go w/ the college cast idea, and I adore the idea of one based on the Infinity Crisis…
…but on the other, I STILL have no idea how they will pull this thing off special effects-wise! It took 200 million to make S-man look real, and he’s just ONE super! THERE ARE SEVEN IN THE FILM. The producers will need more money than God (blasphemy not intended) to make this sh_t right! I still like the idea of making a cg flick, w/ cg versions of the fans’ fav actors, and the actors themselves doing voices.

In short, this one is one the biggest “This one could go either way” cases in history!
BRUCE CAMBELL 4 GL!

Wow dude, excellent casting calls. I couldn’t have chosen them better myself. They just need Welling to look a bit older. Because he should look around the same age as Bale.

the movie sounds like its set some years after Batman Begins, so no continuity problems. It’s obvious that it’s Begins in there since the Nolan brothers have been very tight on the tv department. Canceling a Bruce Wayne tv show and nixing the idea of a young Bruce coming to Smallville. As for Superman, some unknown should be cast since Welling is not in the movie. As for Batman, someone a couple of years older than Bale. Maybe Dominic Purcell or Wentworth Miller.
