Remember, remember…

402 years ago, November the Fifth, an attempt to kill King James I of England, his family, and most of the Protestant aristocracy in a single attack by blowing up V-For-Vendetta-10---07the Houses of Parliament during the State Opening was foiled against a group of provincial English Catholics.

I sit here, just a little bit upset that they failed.

Don’t get me wrong… no, hang on… I’m a republican through and through… although, I’d give that up if we could be part of the Danish monarchy… I think I’m just a bit too attached to our fair Princess Mary.

Nevertheless, following the Main Plot and Bye Plot, the Powder Treason was an elaborate attempt to blow up the House of Parliament.

Robert Cateseby was the mastermind behind the plot, but of course the name that everyone remembers is Guy Fawkes, the explosives expert. Fawkes was captured the night of the attempt, Wednesday, and confessed, giving up his co-conspirators.

More recently, the now famous ten issue comic book series, V for Vendetta, written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd. A great series of books, and a pretty good movie too!

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
