Summer Glau and Joss Whedon Together Again
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise to those of you that read this blog that I am a huge fan of Joss Whedon. Thus, by connection, I have become a huge fan of Summer Glau as well. Beauty aside for a moment - a commodity she has in spades - her work has been utterly mind blowing. I have commented before on just how stunning an actress she is, considering her role as the mentally afflicted River Tam in Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity.
My first viewing of Summer came innocuously enough, as the ballerina in the Angel episode, Waiting in the Wings. Her dance talent got a good showing there, which isn’t a surprise considering that she is classically trained.
So much to my surprise and happiness, Glau announced at a press-conference for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, that she and Joss Whedon will be getting together to do a dance movie.
When quizzed on whether there was a role that Summer always wanted to reply, she responded: “ [I have] always wanted to do a movie about dance which is something that I’m working on right now… Something that Joss Whedon is working on. We’ve kind of had this idea for awhile but we haven’t had much of an opportunity where both of us are available. But it’s something that we’re working on as much as we can.”
If Summer’s dancing talent wasn’t enough, then Joss Whedon’s ability to conduct a musical should be the last bit of evidence you need. One must only look to Once More with Feeling, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical. Whedon also wrote the theme for Firefly, for which he played the guitar and sang. The man behind the above mentioned TV shows, as well as the insanely popular Astonishing X-Men comic being published by Marvel is one of Hollywood’s greatest talents.
This vague dance movie - which, by including Summer Glau hints towards a movie not akin to the teenage-styled dance movies of late - has already got my attention.
