Wheel of Time Reading Workaround

41CNWNZF3TL._SL500_AA240_That I’m a nerd and/or geek (choose your own definition) is definitely not a surprise. Just looking at the content and the categories of this website will tell you that. And if you spend any time with me at all, it’ll only be reinforced over and over again.

So it is no surprise that I am a massive fantasy fan, and have a relatively large collection of fantasy books.

One of my favorites (let’s not get in to the whole Top 10 list though… James Barclay and Robin Hobb…) is Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. However, as with most fans of these books, I realize that at about the book six mark, everything started going down hill. 518W9HCA07L._SL500_AA240_

Some time ago I began reading book 1, and then ploughed by way through the next 5 books. I was half way through book 7 before I realized what was happening; everything was repeating, over and over and over and …

I trudged through book 7, but stalled at the beginning of book 8. I tried unsuccessfully several times to get going, but it just wouldn’t happen.

Until now…

I’ve just finished New Spring (which is a fantastic book, make sure you read it), so I’m back in the world of WoT. However the problem still remains; books 8, 9 and 10 have consistently received poor reviews, with people pointing out the fact that the story is not really advanced.

Not wanting to just skip ahead to book 11 - Knife of Dreams - which was apparently when Jordan managed to get back in to shape, I’ve come up with a plan.

51DFX2VT8TL._SL500_AA240_Utilizing the chapter summaries located here at WoTMania.com, I am reading through each summary and making a list of what chapters I want to read of the Path of Daggers. So far, I’ve gone up to chapter 14 in my summary readings, and have listed books 6-8, 12-14 to read.

This way, I know I’ll be reading a chapter with at least something interesting, and save me from finding out at the end of a chapter that I’ve a) skipped, and missed something or b) not skipped, and still got nothing!

Either way, hopefully, I’ll manage to get through to book 11 this way, and then be able to move on to all the other books that I have lying around…

I really loved the series when I started it and while I always thought it needlessly dragged on at times, I kept on reading. I read through Book 5 and planned on getting to Book 6, but never did. Then I found out how the later books were ultra repetitive with stories that went nowhere, and I just gave up on it. I mean, how many times can you get attacked by Trollocs and live to tell about it?
